- Executive Director's role in admitting new members
One OSMF Board member had a question about the Executive Director's role in admitting new members:
> Like most LCs, they do not have a 100% open membership, but (§7 pg. 2): “Admission of members shall be made by the Board upon a determination by the Executive Director that the member meets the qualifications established for membership as set forth in these Bylaws.”
> This says that a single person (the Executive Director) must approve a new membership. Is that giving one person too much power?
- OSMF Japan writes: Although a bit more examination needed, but it could be a sort of mis-translation in English. In Japanese, it is written in
- > 当法人の会員として入会しようとする者は、理事会の定める手続により、 申し込み、理事会の承認を得なければならない。
- (DeepL translation): Any person who wishes to become a member of the Corporation shall apply for membership in accordance with the procedures prescribed by the Board of Directors and obtain the approval of the Board of Directors.
- So the judge is made by a counsel (or committee?) of the Directors. Although the Executive Director is a member of the structure, but does not have special power on that.
