Actual business
Refactoring of OSM website notes
An independent attempt to implement the feature amongst others has been started by a volunteering Microsoft engineer. Gregory has subsequently decided to stop his work on the branch that got stale for review reasons.
The Engineering Working Group accepts a motion to pay Gregory for the refactoring work on the OpenStreetMap website code base. This motion concludes the topic.
The Engineering Working Group is made aware of the idea to invite Microsoft for a presentation of the work they have given to the Advisory Board.
EWG help with recruitment for copyright page update
Robert has volunteered to partner with Emerson on this. No updates since last meeting. Salim willing to help with this
Github issue, Bid for copyright draft
Bid should be published on GitHub using the same presentation/folder structure as with previous calls for bids. Note that the Communications Working Group shall be involved in advertising the bid.
The Engineering Working Group continues to intent to follow due process. The rationale is to ensure that the process is effective and reproducible.
Still open: ask Gregory for an idea of time/budget for the task.
A bids has been made: https://github.com/osmfoundation/ewg_bidding/pull/19/files
Sovereign Tech Fund (STF)
Roland, Hector support Adam for the EWG managed interviews.
2 candidates invited to two interviews each, and the interviews are in progress. The personnel committee has the lead there. The EWG has and gets visibility about the progress.

Deadline of call for jurors has passed. Still not enough people interested.
Mikel has started reaching out directly to potential jurors, and first indicators give confidence that a jury can be compiled.
The start of the Microgrants shall be postponed until after the STF process is complete.
GDPR
Activity by AntonKhorev: The pull request might accomplish part of the work (by proper volunteer).
Context:

- Public discussion on GitHub: https://github.com/osmfoundation/ewg_bidding/pull/12
- Public community forum discussion: https://community.openstreetmap.org/t/ewg-plans-to-hire-a-contractor-to-improve-gdpr-compliance/121232
Next steps:
- Improve the draft of the bid on the GitHub repo
- Look also through the code whether there are obviously loose ends
Roland and Andrew shall sort out what to do, but have not yet made progress on that.
Vector Tiles
There are news in the thread on community.osm.org.
Paul focuses to work on the performance: He investigates to split into layers to improve performance.
iD Development
Martin is working on the backlog and supported by mattiapezzotti (a 2024 GSoC contributor) as intern.
Google Summer of Code
The commitee is currently looking for project ideas and mentors.
Any other business
Microsoft presentation at Advisory Board meeting
Microsoft presented at the Adviory Board meeting on Mon 2025-01-27 16 UTC, and the presentation is relevant for the work of the EWG.
Bing Maps
From last time: It appears some editors are using older Bing Maps tokens which do not have the same access level. In response to this situation, Mikel is currently coordinating potential actions between editor developers and Bing.
Ideally, Microsoft can coordinate with the Foundation and the community then coordinates among themselves. Martin (iD) might be in a good position to do some coordination.
A recent key failure in JOSM is unrelated to the sunsetting.
Budget
A topic for the next meeting: reconcile the budget of 2024 and make the fine planning for 2025.
