Topics
Google Summer of Code
Almost everyone is on the mentors mailing list, with some exceptions. Notably Daria and Lev. We need to contact them, so we won't forget anyone.
We have graded proposals on a google spreadsheet, no more grades are seeked. Google by 17th (Monday) wants two numbers from us: the minimum and maximum number of slots we want. Usually they give us something inbetween. But sending them inflated numbers will be punished next time, so we have to choose wisely.
Peter usually asks every mentor about their students: whether thay have one, and if their students are great. That helps with determining both numbers for Google. After we get the final number of slots, proposal grades from the spreadsheet help choosing the students we leave out.
Had a brief talk on these numbers and circled around number six, but ultimately we cannot decide anything now. We will let Peter do his thing, and we'll meet early for choosing the students: slots are allocated on 19th, and by 24th we have to send the list.
We discussed a student that failed to write a decent proposal and got bad grades in the spreadsheet, but was very good in private talks with mentors. And touched on how projects have different importance for the OpenStreetMap. For example, is creating a new service more important than improving an existing one? Or is JOSM more important than Libosmscout?
Top Ten Tasks
After sending an email to the talk@ mailing list, we've got around 70 ideas. That is a lot. Ilya is sorting these into a separate google spreadsheet, with an intention of categorizing. At the meeting we didn't have any good ideas on the grading process. Except that we should quickly discard ideas that nobody on the EWG thinks are good for the list. Ilya to decide the technical side of that.
Action Items
- Peter: ask each GSoC mentor about their students
- Polyglot and Ilya: ask Daria and Lev to sign up for the mentors list
- Ilya: send out a doodle about the next meeting date
- Ilya: sort through the Top Ten Tasks ideas
