The new licence is an improvement for agencies which do not have an agreement with the LC. Satoshi to confirm if it looks right to him. [Topic: Japan’s new Public Data License (PDL)] Done

Reports in OTRS:

Reportage

Board item: Grandfathering agreement for the OsmAPP project

Not discussed.

DMCA registration renewal due in January 2025

  • The renewal of the DMCA registration must be completed by January 31st, 2025, otherwise we will lose our immunity.
  • Concern expressed about the renewal, as the LWG has not hearc back from the Treasurer.

Suggestion: add the DMCA renewal as a topic to the 2025-01-16 board chat and ask Roland to do the renewl during the meeting.

Updating Canada OGL instructions

Suggested revisions were provided from Tom Lee on an internal LWG document.

The LWG has drafted new instructions for Canada OGL licences.

Action item: Tom Lee to update to the OSMF website and the OSM wiki.

On Canadian licences that were pointed out to the LWG recently

  • 80% of Canadian licenses are now standardised, following the same template, and are straightforward to process.
  • Exceptions: some small municipalities.

Other points mentioned

  • Check the reference to setting the definition of records to match the local definition.
  • Kathleen added Edmonton as a good example.
  • Tom Lee to contact Dorothea if there is still an issue with his account on the OSMF website.

Queries from Local Chapter: OpenStreetMap France – Translation of community guidelines

Kathleen reached out to Guillaume during the meeting.

Queries from Local Chapter: Japan’s new Public Data License (PDL)

  • Satoshi provided additional examples related to Japan and mentioned that the government has recently updated the standard terms to a public data license, which currently lacks an official English translation.
  • Although the new license has not been widely adopted yet, Satoshi is optimistic.
  • The new license template includes specific sections for identifying third-party content and outlining limitations, making it easier for OSMers to understand and review the license.
  • Japanese agencies that will implement the new license will publish it on their websites in Japanese. To check for discrepancies with the reference translation, someone from the Japanese community will need to compare the two versions, which could be a big challenge.

footpath.ai imagery #58724
