Reportage
PD checkbox
On board’s hands now.
Options: ignore it/remove it/discussion.
Mentioned during LWG discussion
- Suggestion that the board takes it off, posts a blogpost about why and invites discussion about the original intention of the box.
- Political decision.
~ 4'05'' after start: Nuno Caldeira joined.
Tile licence
See “Standard” style tiles licence
We originally suggested to switch to CC BY 4.0 with a waiver of certain terms, this however was too controversial in public discussion. Our fallback position was to simply state that the tiles are available on the relevant (that is Produced Work) ODbL terms, which seemed to be largely uncontroversial. Proposal: recommend to the board to resolve to change the tile licence to the ODbL 1.0. Past related LWG minutes: Past related board minutes:

Proposal unanimously accepted (Guillaume did not vote).
Action item: Simon to email the board with recommendation to change the tile licence to the ODbL 1.0.
OpenFricheMap trademark
Opposition deadline 20 MAY 2020 |
- Registered in class 42.
- Want to provide map services under that name.
- Seems OSM-friendly.
Other points mentioned during discussion
- Simon has already emailed the board of the French LC if they had any communication with them but didn't get a response.
- Unknown whether the deadline is extendable.
- Better for French or international community members to approach them, rather than lawyers.
Action item: Guillaume to contact Safer.
Discussion about similar cases and general info
2 other cases, one which we "lost/half-won", as they removed the most concerning classes from their registration.
Trademark registration: Clear formal way of intervening before registration.
Domain name registration: No equivalent.
- New top level domain registration - Sunrise period.
- We have registration with a Clearinghouse for that.
- For some top-level domains: notification sent.
- Doesn't stop people from registering a domain - dispute resolution process has to be used.
Any Other Business
Attribution
Action item: Guillaume will talk to stakeholders to see what would be workable.
