State of the Map 2024

Background

The international State of the Map 2024 conference, which is organised by the OpenStreetMap Foundation, will take place in Nairobi, Kenya, and online on 6-8 September 2024. The board will have a presentation "OSMF board – what are they even doing? and an "Ask us anything session".

Sovereign Tech Fund application

Background

The German government has now officially started their FOSS support fund (see below). Minimum funding is 150,000 EUR which makes it more of a long-term investment.

Dear readers,

We are thrilled to announce the launch of the Sovereign Tech Fund open application platform, where applications for financial support are continuously accepted.

We are looking for:

Open source infrastructure: technologies that can be used to produce other software or to facilitate network connections. We prioritize technologies that, when improved or maintained, will benefit many other projects that use them, thus fostering an open source ecosystem.
Technologies that provide support not only for a single element, but also for numerous other technologies which rely on it.
Technologies with societal relevance, i.e. technologies from which a broad public benefits or on which particularly vulnerable groups depend. The public interest in these technologies is not measured solely by the number of users, but also by their criticality in particularly important areas of society.
