Statistics
1072 tickets were created in OTRS in this quarter (173 of these were copied from the web site issue tracker). Issues of minor importance are sometimes handled directly in the web site issue tracker and will therefore not be counted.
A total of 1655 messages were received in the context of these tickets, and 1594 messages and memos were written by DWG members.
268 tickets were follow-on tickets to older issues, 134 were discarded as spam. 642 tickets created in this quarter were closed, and additionally, 113 tickets from previous periods were closed.
The median time for the first (non-automated) response to tickets was 5 hours.
10 DWG members were active in the quarter (93% of cases were handled by the five busiest members).
The majority of tickets were handled in English (656), but we also used the languages German (40), French (14), Russian (13), Dutch (10), and Danish (6). (We will also often include auto-translated versions of English messages in responses.)
Generally, all these numbers should be taken with a grain of salt because edge cases can be mis-counted in our statistics. Also, due to reorganisation or cleaning out of old information, it is possible that previous quarters shown in the above graph differ slightly from the numbers published at the time.
Comment and Notable Issues
Problematic remote mapping in Wales, especially Ynys Môn / Anglesey
This issue was one of many, but most of those didn't go as far as the DWG, instead just ending up being mentioned on IRC and in places like Discord. This example was fairly typical - someone (from 1000s of miles away, via the HOT tasking manager) was encouraged to map remotely in Wales for humanitarian reasons, and did so with the best of intentions. Unfortunately, their skill level with the iD editor was some way short of those good intentions and they probably did more harm than good. The general mapping activity was discussed in the UK forum in May and September 2024. Some issues were resolved by others in the Welsh and UK communities fairly quickly (some broken multiploygons and route relations fixed), but other issues remained.
Something that claimed to be "validation" (a word used for the checking of a "HOT" changeset) did eventually occur about a year after the initial complaint, but a look at some of the data now still shows hedges drawn by this mapper misaligned with field boundaries, and both misaligned with OSMUK's cadastral parcels.
A road classification mapping conflict in Poland
We've had several of these over the years, and the conflict over road categorisation can also be seen by the topics in the Polish forum. Thankfully, at the time of writing these do seem to have subsided somewhat. In this example one mapper thought a road was class X and another class Y, and rather than try and discuss more widely a revert war ensued (a waste of everyone's time).
